WWE Champion Sheamus vs. Randy Orton

Legend has it that around 400 A.D., Saint Patrick used his charms and powers of persuasion to drive all the snakes out of Ireland and into the sea. Unfortunately for WWE Champion Sheamus, The Viper, Randy Orton, has never been one to surrender quite so willingly.

Truth be told, the Irishman will have his hands full when he battles Orton in a WWE Championship Match at SummerSlam. While Sheamus attempts to retain his second WWE Championship, The Apex Predator has his flickering eyes hoping for his sixth.

But this time, by order of the Raw General Manager, if anyone interferes in the WWE Championship match, it'll equal an indefinite suspension. And if Orton loses at SummerSlam, he'll get no rematch, and will go to the back of the line.

For each Superstar, the path to a WWE Title Match has proven demanding. Sheamus was forced to best John Cena at Money in the Bank in a controversial Steel Cage Match that witnessed the meddling influence of The Nexus. Meanwhile, Orton earned his opportunity by defeating Edge and Chris Jericho in a punishing Triple Threat Match on Raw. The common thread between these two competitors being that each appears to straddle the tenuous line between aggression and transgression.

In the end, though, The Viper offers his opponent a thorny set of challenges as slithery and unpredictable as any in WWE history. And while Sheamus may appear as fair as his beloved Cliffs of Moher, he’s also just as rugged and unforgiving – and leaves Orton with a task equally as steep.

World Heavyweight Champion Kane vs. Rey Mysterio

At SummerSlam, World Heavyweight Champion Kane will heat up the squared circle, setting the biggest event of the summer ablaze with an explosive rematch against former World Champion, Rey Mysterio.

After winning the SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the innovative pay-per-view of the same name, The Big Red Monster wasted no time stepping into the sun. After an injured Rey Mysterio beat the heat of battle with a heroic title defense against Jack Swagger, Kane emerged to become the first Superstar in history to cash in his title opportunity on the very same night he captured it. With an earth-shattering tombstone, Kane captured the World Heavyweight Championship.

Five days later on SmackDown, the still-injured Mysterio refused to take a vacation, once more defeating the ruthless Swagger – in an epic 2-out-of-3 Falls Match – for the chance to challenge the frightening champion at the biggest pay-per-view of the summer. When Kane attempted to send a scorching post-match message to his new No. 1 contender, Mysterio pulled the towel out from under him, delivering a seismic 619.

Despite the agonizing pain of his ankle injury, The Ultimate Underdog is determined to put every bit of his heart into getting his World Title back. But, will the sadistic World Heavyweight Champion cast a Big Red shadow over Mysterio’s summertime dreams?

Team WWE vs. The Nexus (Elimination Tag Team Match)

The intense rivalry between The Nexus and the Raw locker room has gotten increasingly heated this summer, and it's sure to reach a boiling point at SummerSlam when an assemblage of Raw’s most battle-hardened warriors face off against the vicious season one NXT Rookies in what's become a 6-on-7 Elimination Tag Team Match.

Team WWE and The Nexus were at one point evenly matched for their SummerSlam showdown, with Cena enlisting Chris Jericho, Edge, R-Truth, John Morrison, The Great Khali and even former Raw General Manager and WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart to take on Wade Barrett and his band of rebels: David Otunga, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Darren Young, Michael Tarver and Skip Sheffield. But cracks began to form in this once-united front against The Nexus, as egos and rivalries tore the SummerSlam squad asunder in the weeks leading up to summer's biggest event.

Just two weeks after Cena unveiled Team WWE, Jericho and Edge abandoned their fellow Superstars, leaving the remaining members outnumbered. Not content with letting mere squabbling dismantle the opposition, The Nexus then obliterated potential Team WWE replacements before ambushing The Great Khali, injuring his knee and rendering him unlikely to compete.

On the final Raw before SummerSlam, the situation seemed dire for Team WWE, as only four of its original members remained standing. The WWE Universe breathed a collective sigh of relief, then, when Edge and Jericho ultimately opted to put aside their differences with the other Raw Superstars and rejoined their former allies, ready to battle The Nexus.

In an Elimination Tag Team Match, the contest must continue until all members of one team are taken out of the match, either by pinfall or submission. In an Elimination Tag Team Match, the contest must continue until all members of one team are taken out of the match, either by pinfall or submission. Make no mistake: One of these teams will be declared the victor at SummerSlam.

When they made their explosive debut on Raw, The Nexus targeted then-WWE Champion Cena to send a clear message to the WWE Universe: NXT’s first graduating class is a force to be reckoned with. The group soon broadened their scope of savagery to include the entire Raw roster because, as Barrett proclaimed, “If you’re not Nexus, you’re against us.”

Not content with roughing up Superstars, The Nexus turned their aggression on Raw’s former GM Bret Hart, viciously assaulting the Hall of Famer in a parking lot demanding and that he grant them WWE contracts. With The “Hit Man” out of the equation, WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon – in a move that he thought would sate the group’s thirst for destruction – replaced Hart with an anonymous new GM, who immediately hired The Nexus to Raw. Big mistake.

In a blatant display of disrespect, The Nexus brutalized Mr. McMahon later that night, going on to sendshockwaves throughout the WWE Universe when they decimated WWE Legends such as Arn Anderson, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, showing that there are no lines the furious upstarts won’t cross.

Just one night after costing Cena the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank, The Nexus boldly declared that they’d end their invasion of Raw if Cena joined their ranks. But the seven-time WWE Champion had a bombshell of his own to drop: He'd been forming a team to challenge the rebel faction at SummerSlam – a squad determined to make sure The Nexus will not go down in history, but rather ensure that the arm-banded assailants simply are history.

Can Team WWE rally together to topple The Nexus once and for all? Or will the rebellious NXT season one Rookies continue to tighten their vise-like grip on Monday Night Raw?

Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston

When new Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler steps into the ring to defend his title for the first time, he will be facing hungry ex-champion Kofi Kingston. Kingston will be out to regain the title Ziggler himself wrested from him recently on SmackDown.

But will Kingston’s hunger be enough?

Ever since Ziggler made his SmackDown debut in the spring of 2009, the young Superstar has been scratching and clawing for his chance to be in the limelight. Later that same year, Ziggler came very close against then-Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio in title matches at SummerSlam and Night of Champions.

Now that Ziggler has finally achieved championship glory, he is surely not going down without a fight.

And Ziggler is not going into battle alone. In his corner, Ziggler has girlfriend and Official SmackDown Consultant Vickie Guerrero. In fact, it was Guerrero herself who played a pivotal role in Ziggler’s title win by causing a distraction in the match. Could she do the same at SummerSlam?

Both Kingston and Ziggler have proven they have the drive and in-ring abilities to shine. The question now is which hunger is more powerful? The hunger to get back on top, or to stay there?

Big Show vs. The Straight Edge Society (3-on-1 Handicap Match)

Overcoming the odds in a 3-on-1 Handicap Match seems nearly impossible for any Superstar. However, Big Show isn’t your average Superstar. At nearly 500 pounds, he is The World’s Largest Athlete.

While Big Show’s weapons are his size and strength, The Straight Edge Society boasts a propensity to band together and attack its foes like a pack of hungry predators.

On the July 30 edition of SmackDown, CM Punk, Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury and Serena brutally assaulted Big Show, repeatedly smashing and stomping his hand into the steel ring steps.

Although the beating clearly had an impact that night on SmackDown, will it only fuel the giant’s anger when he steps in the ring at SummerSlam?

With Serena falling off the wagon, and CM Punk continually reprimanding his devoted followers, the foundation of The S.E.S. appears to be on shaky ground.

At SummerSlam, either a giant will be toppled or an entire society may come crumbling down.

Divas Champion Alicia Fox vs. Melina

As Alicia Fox is quick to remind the WWE Universe week after week, no Diva on the Raw roster has been able to pry the Divas Championship from her icy grip. However, Alicia’s unflinching self-confidence took a major hit when Melina made her long-awaited WWE return to challenge the devious Diva for her title at SummerSlam.

A three-time Women’s Champion, Melina captured the Divas Championship for the first time last October, but it was a leg injury – not one of her fellow Divas – that would separate the Latina lovely from the butterfly-embossed title. The Divas Title has changed hands three times, adorning the waists and shoulders of Maryse and Eve before it was snatched up by Alicia at Fatal 4-Way.

Ever since that fateful night, the foxy Floridian has not only been vocal about her in-ring dominance, but she’s proven it too, laying waste to virtually every Diva on the Raw roster. Of course, Alicia has resorted to some underhanded tactics to get the better of her opponents – including feigning injuries to catch other Divas off guard – but she’d just call that sound strategy.

As a fully healed Melina storms her way back to WWE with Alicia in her crosshairs, the WWE Universe is in for a dynamic duel of the Divas at the season’s most explosive bash. Will Melina make a stellar comeback from her injury, or will she find herself outfoxed by the treacherous Divas Champion?
